Hours of Operation

We are open 12 months of the year, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. We are closed on all Civic Holidays.

Busing

The following School's busing is accessible from our location: Busing must be arranged between the parent and the appropriate School Board. For specific busing situations, please contact Anita Broere 768-3222.

We are unique. Our children come first. Every child is given the opporunity for growth and development in our inclusive childcare setting.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

STAFF

Qualifications of Staff

The staff who work directly with the children are Early Childhood Educators. Your child's teacher has extensive knowledge and receives ongoing education in the area of child development. His/her background knowledge includes curriculum planning, guidance of young children and health and safety practices, to name a few. All staff receive ongoing raining in First Aid and Infant/Child/Adult CPR. The Centre also employs a full time Food Preparer who has a knowledgeable, extensive background in nutrition and Safe Food Handling Practices.

The day-to-day operations are overseen by the Child Care Advisor whose role is to ensure the delivery of high quality programs and services, scheduling and enrolment.

Children with Special Needs

All programs offered at the W.J. Griffis Children's Centre promote inclusion. Inclusion means children are welcomed, supported and valued ~ total acceptance. The activities of playing, learning and growing happen in a developmentally appropriate programs that promote full participation in a way in which all children feel that they belong. Our program builds on children's strengths and provides appropriate and adaptable supports needed in an accessible environment.

We promote inclusion as a practice that is family and child centered, that respects diversity and that is built upon true partnerships.

Resource Staff

Two on site Resource Teachers provide support services to all programs and families. These supports facilitate quality care and education that considers the diverse strengths and needs of all children. The Resource staff work within a unified concept that promotes consultation and collaboration with Early Childhood Educators, families, professionals and outside agencies. Individual Education Programs are designed for each child with exceptionalities and adaptations to the curriculum are made to enhance the development of all children. Screening is implemented fo rhte early identification to learning differences.

Nutrition

Our cook prepares nutritious snacks and lunches following Canada's Food Guide. We are a nut-free Centre and therefore ask that you consult with Staff before sending any food items with your child.
