The first Lethbridge Inclusion Awards is an initiative of the local International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) committee. This has been a longstanding group of volunteers dedicated to celebrating the contributions and talents of persons with disabilities possess to make our community a better place.

These awards will highlight the individuals, businesses and groups that break barriers to create a more open and accepting community for those with disabilities. Lethbridge is a great place to live, work and play. Every day, ordinary citizens are achieving extraordinary things to inspire change and understanding, touching lives along the way. We want to recognize these leaders, and the impact their actions make in transforming our city into a home that can be enjoyed by all.
The committee will present the Community Compassion Award to a pre-determined local citizen who has made a substantial difference in the lives of others through caring, acceptance and giving back. This award, along with four others, will be presented Dec. 3, 2015 at CASA during the annual IDPD celebration.
We invite citizens to submit nominations in one of the following four categories:
INNOVATOR: Awarded to a business that has dedicated itself to inclusion and removing barriers by creating an accessible space for patrons with disabilities AND/OR fostering inclusive hiring and accommodation practices to help people with disabilities realize their passion and potential.
COLLABORATOR: Awarded to a community group that has made a difference in the lives of people with disabilities through acceptance and equal opportunity.
SUPPORTER: Awarded to an individual who has been a strong ally of people with disabilities and their success through advocacy and encouragement.
CHAMPION: Awarded to an individual with a disability who has distinguished themselves through personal or professional excellence, creating a positive impact on the community with their attitudes and efforts.
Nominations will be accepted until October 31. Submissions of kinds will be accepted, including, but not limited to: written essay, photo essay, video, poetry or slideshow presentation. Regardless of the format, the submission MUST contain: the category of nomination, the impact the nominee has made and why YOU think they deserve to win. Submissions MUST also contain contact information for both the nominator and the nominee. Nominators are free to use the form provided, however, it is not a requirement.
Winners and nominators will be notified no later than November 15, 2015.
